Mental Health Nurse

Primary Role:

The Mental Health Nurse is responsible for supporting and assists in managing all clinical operations by delivering appropriate, consistently high quality and cost-effective preventive and curative clinical services to all patients and their families in a professional manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizing work loads and duty rotas for Nurses
  • Building relationships with, reassuring and listening to and talking to patients
  • Combating stigma and helping patients and their families manage it
  • Reviewing care plans and monitoring progress
  • Assessing treatment success at case conferences and meetings
  • Supervising in and out patient records, writing and updating patient records
  • Encouraging patients to take part in therapeutic activities such as art
  • Identifying and managing patients with mental health illnesses both in outpatient and psychiatric consultation clinic and in the community through follow-ups.
  • Overseeing and conducting mental health assessments.
  • Planning individual case managements of mental health patients in the centre and referring accordingly.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions and evaluating patients outcome.
  • Providing psychiatric support by use of individual or group counseling and psychotherapy.
  • Facilitating patients admissions and initiating discharge plans.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Diploma in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
  • 2 years post qualification experience in the field
  • Fluency in all Office applications (incl. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
  • Must have a valid Practicing license
